I am really loving blueberry season, as you may have noticed. I've recently made blueberry chia pudding, blueberry iced tea, blueberry almond flour muffins, blueberry oatmeal bars, blueberry simple syrup, and even a blueberry martini. Oh, and even a delicious gluten-free blueberry crisp. I'm keeping it going with these blueberry popsicles.

Why you'll love this easy homemade popsicle recipe
- Simple ingredients. These delicious popsicles have just four ingredients.
- Quick and easy. The hardest part of this blueberry popsicle recipe is waiting for them to freeze! It takes minutes to blitz fresh berries, stir in some yogurt, and pop them in the freezer for a perfect summer treat. Kids love them!
- Healthy. I love to make my own popsicles with fresh fruit. (Try my strawberry popsicle recipe, too). Unlike grocery store ice pops, these healthy popsicles are made with natural ingredients. There's no refined sugar or artificial coloring. And the Greek yogurt means these popsicles are protein packed. They are a delicious guilt-free treat, and of course they are naturally gluten-free.
Ingredients
Ingredient quantities and full instructions are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Blueberries. You can use fresh or frozen blueberries. There's no need to thaw them if you use frozen berries.
- Greek yogurt. I like to use Greek yogurt because it's so thick and tangy, making for extra creamy popsicles. However, you can use regular yogurt and the popsicles will still be delicious.
- Maple syrup. If your blueberries are sweet enough for you, you can omit the addition of pure maple syrup. I suggest tasting the blueberry puree before adding the maple syrup if you prefer the popsicles with no added sugar.
- Vanilla extract. Vanilla adds a deeper flavor note to these blueberry yogurt popsicles. Be sure to use only pure vanilla extract.
How to make blueberry popsicles
- In a blender or food processor, (I use my Magic Bullet) process the blueberries with the maple syrup (if using) and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Combine the blueberry puree with the yogurt in a bowl.
- Pour the popsicle mixture into molds.
- Insert popsicle sticks.
- Cover the popsicle mold and freeze for 4 hours or overnight.
- Let your homemade popsicles sit at room temperature for 5 minutes, or run them under warm water to loosen them from the molds.
Top Tips
- Blueberries. Use fresh, ripe blueberries, or use frozen blueberries. If you use frozen berries, you don't have to thaw them, but might need extra blender time. Wild blueberries work great, too.
- Fruit. This easy popsicle recipe can be used with other berries too. Try it with blackberries, raspberries, of a combination of berries. You can use other fresh fruit like peaches or cherries, too.
- Lemon Juice. Add a tablespoon of lemon juice for lemon blueberry popsicles.
- Sweetener. Maple syrup is optional, especially if your berries are very sweet. You can also use honey or agave syrup instead.
- Yogurt. I recommend using full fat Greek yogurt for maximum creaminess, protein, and tang. However, you can make these popsicles with regular yogurt, or you can make them vegan by using dairy-free yogurt or full fat coconut milk. You can also use vanilla yogurt or blueberry yogurt. Just omit the maple syrup and vanilla extract.
- Blueberry swirl popsicles. If you want a swirl effect, instead of combining the blueberry mixture completely with the yogurt, just gently swirl it in.
- Storage. Put the frozen popsicles in a re-sealable freezer bag or airtight container, and freeze for up to six months.
FAQ's
I like these silicon ice pop molds for homemade fruit popsicles. They're inexpensive, easy to use, and they can go in the oven to double as cake pop molds. Because silicon is flexible, be sure to put the molds on a tray before filling them. If you don't have popsicle molds, you can use small paper cups, like Dixie cups. Fill the cups and freeze them for two hours. Then insert a wooden popsicle stick into each one before returning to the freezer.
The creamy yogurt in this popsicle recipe has a low water content and is less likely to be icy when frozen. Some people recommend adding a teaspoon of cornstarch to the popsicle mixture before freezing. However, you can also leave the popsicles at room temperature for five minutes to soften them.
More cool treats
Cool off with strawberry popsicles, black current ice cream, or mango coconut ice cream. Or sip on some blueberry iced tea, or lavender lemonade.
